Benefits and profitability of Progut®
|
Through adding Progut® to compound or special
feeds, especially during the critical periods of production such as low immune status and the existence of E.coli
related problems, it has shown in trials to give following benefits:
•
Piglets:
- significantly reduced risk of diarrhoea (DIAS, Foulum, 2004; Agrifood Research
Center 2003, Finland)
- more even growth and better vitality (Farm trials, 1996-1999,
Finland)
- improve the immune status of the animal (Munkkila Research Farm, 2000,
Finland)
- stabilize intestinal microflora (Munkkila Research Farm, 2005,
Finland)
•
Layers and parent stocks:
- lower mortality (Farm trials, 2003, Switzerland)
- improved laying performance (1-3%) (Sigra Research Centre,
2003, Latvia)
- better FCR (3-7%) (Sigra Research Centre, 2003,
Latvia)
- cleaner eggs (several farm trials in Finland
2002-2005)
•
Broilers:
- lower mortality (Vilnius Broiler Farm, Lithuania
2004).
- improved ADG and FCR (1-3%) (Agrifood Research Center 2002,
Finland; Private Research Farm, 2005, UK)
- improve the immune status of the animal (Danisco Innovation
Research Center, 2004, Finland, Private Research Farm, 2007, Netherlands)
•
Calves and goat kids:
- improved ADG (10-20%) (University of Wales, 2006, Bangor;
University of Helsinki, 2005, Finland)
- more even growth (farm trial, 2005, Sweden)
- reduced risk of diarrhoea
The principle benefits of Progut® can be
expected under normal housing conditions and while subjected to normal infection pressure. The development of immunity
takes time, so to realise the full potential of the product it is recommended to feed Progut® a minimum
of one week prior to the critical period.
Based on the institute trials, the Pay-Back –ratio for
investment to Progut® varies from 2 to 10:1 depending on the animal species.
