In University trials and farm tests the hydrolysed brewery
yeast product has shown to improve the milk yield and feed utilisation of dairy cows (table). On average the milk yield
has increased by 1.8 kg per cow/d and feed utilisation by 6 %. A large scale farm survey with 22 Finnish dairy farms in
2006-2007 showed that the Progut response was the same in different lactation phases (figure). The trial results are
presented more in details in the Chapter “Research and Trials”. Calculated with the average improvement in
milk yield (1.8 kg/cow/d) and with milk price of 37 cents per litre, the economical benefit of Progut investment was
more than € 200 per cow and year (value of milk – feeding costs).
